'not
his circle of friends' by alan brown

During a holiday in
Spain my wife and I had Alicante and during a stroll around the city we
stopped to eat our picnic lunch in this ‘Romanesque’ park with its stone
pillars, large concrete urns and several of these circular arenas connected by
palm-lined walkways.
As we rested in the
shade from the midday heat of the sun the elderly gentleman had also paused to
sit about 30 feet in front of us. He was unaware of me as I took several shots
of him when the small group of people came into view and stopped in the shade to
chat.
I
was rather pleased with this particular shot as the man appears to be trying to
recognise someone in the party but they in turn appear to be ignoring him, hence
the title. I feel that the position of the two groups provides a balance
to the composition of the image as do the two areas of shade in the opposing
corners of the frame.
