Most of my photography is still done on
film, but I do use a digital camera sometimes, particularly in the studio.
Immediate review of a flash shot is possible, whereas with film the shot can
only be reviewed after processing.
I had done a studio session with Jake playing his guitar, and using several
studio flash heads. Right at the end of the session I switched off the flashes
on the units, and just used the small low-light modelling lamps in the flash
heads. In this dim light it meant that to get a good exposure I would have to
open the shutter for a long time, which is what I wanted to convey movement. I
also moved the camera during the shot. The read-out on the RAW data tells me I
opened the shutter for 1/1.3 seconds, that is, 0.76 of a second.
By chance the exposure was almost perfect, and a little work in Photoshop,
including conversion to mono, produced the hoped-for result.

35mm, camera set to ISO 200 and lens fully open at f/2.8 for 0.76 of a second.
