Clive Rowley,
a doctor by profession but
now retired, has had a camera since 1958 when he was 12 years old. His
monochrome work has been seen in several magazines and in five books featuring
monochrome photography. Featured articles have appeared in 'Amateur
Photographer'. He has exhibited in several exhibitions and won a first prize in
an Open Photographic Exhibition (The Focal Point Prize,
Keele
University,
2002). He uses film cameras for most of his work, but he has now included some
digital capture. Likewise he uses both traditional and digital darkrooms. Prints
of his photographs are owned in the UK and abroad. He uses Nikon, Leica and
Mamiya equipment. A Staffordshire man by birth and domicile, he can be contacted
at ncr007@hotmail.com
Alan Brown,
a native of Staffordshire, took up
photography as a hobby in 1989 following redundancy from British Coal. After
joining several camera clubs in the area and visiting many photographic
exhibitions in the UK he soon discovered that his main passion lay in black and
white photography. In those early days he enjoyed the competitive side of club
photography and worked hard to improve his printing to a standard where his
images would be accepted in exhibitions. In 1992 he was invited to join the Moorland Monochrome Group where his work was seen in the group's exhibition,
'Images of Staffordshire' in 1993. Since then his photographs have been accepted
in exhibitions worldwide. His images are captured on Nikon, Leica and Hasselblad
cameras.
Alan's photographic honours to date are: Licentiate with the
Royal Photographic Society (LRPS), Artist with the Federation Internationale de
l'art Photographique (AFIAP), Credit status with the Photographic Alliance of
Great Britain (CPAGB) and 3 star status with the British Photographic Exhibitors
(BPE 3*). His work has been widely published in photography books and magazines
and he has won several major prizes in exhibitions, and has held several touring
exhibitions of his work in recent years, many of his images being sold to
collectors following the exhibitions.
He is a strong believer in the magic of monochrome photography
and produces most of his prints in the darkroom, though he admits to having
'dipped a toe' into digital reproduction. Alan can be contacted at:

Brian Tompkins,
from the South of England but now living in Leeds, Yorkshire, was employed as a photographer in the
Royal Air Force. In 1981 he gained the distinction of Associate of the Royal
Photographic Society. A keen Nikon and Leica user for many years he has had several books
published re the technical aspects of Leica usage and collecting. However Brian
is the ‘Amateur Photographer’ in the purest sense. After 1981 he turned his back
on gaining further awards; he will not submit work for competition or
publication. Unlike other prints shown on this site his prints are not for sale.
He produces what he refers to as “snaps” purely out of a love of black and white
photography.
He has now moved totally into digital for his snaps, although his love of
monochrome is still as strong as ever.
Tanya Lowe
Born in
Portsmouth, South of England. Working part time as an IT Service Desk
Analyst.
"My love for photography began when wanting to bring a bit of my garden into my
kitchen. I purchased a Digital Nikon 5000 for it's macro qualities. After
receiving much encouragement with my photography I soon after moved to a Nikon
D100 digital SLR. My main interest is with monochrome photography. Having
never used film I strive to keep my photographs more in keeping with film than
highly manipulated images. 2004 has been a successful year, winning camera
club competitions, best Havant print in the Havant National Open Exhibitioaaand
having work displayed in the Havant area.
"It's all about seeing" someone once said to me and photography has certainly
opened my eyes. I love the whole process from sighting the shot right through to
seeing the final print."
